Why creative writing matters for EcoServants
Science and policy create solutions, but stories make them stick. Our blog platform, EcoBlogs, reaches a global audience with essays, features, and interviews that translate ecological challenges into human stories. Writers give voice to volunteers, highlight solutions, and move readers from awareness to action.
What you’ll write
- Eco-educational blog features and essays
- Volunteer and practitioner interviews
- Timely opinion pieces and editorials
- SEO-driven storytelling that reaches wider audiences
What you’ll learn
- How to pitch and publish professional articles
- Editorial workflow from draft to fact-check
- SEO and digital publishing techniques
- Practical interviewing and reporting skills
Program structure
- 2–3 blog entries per month
- Monthly meeting: 3rd Saturday, 10–11:30 AM PST
- 4-month program with certification
- Approx. 6–8 hours per week
Responsibilities of a Creative Writing Intern
- Pitch story ideas, outlines, and sources for editor review
- Write original essays, interviews, or features with light research
- Apply SEO guidance, headings, and internal links
- Revise drafts based on editor feedback and fact checks
- Coordinate publication timing with the content team
