🚧 Why Highway Cleanups Matter More Than Ever

Highways aren’t just roads—they’re arteries that connect people, communities, and ecosystems. Unfortunately, they’re also hotbeds for pollution. Litter from cars, trucks, and illegal dumping accumulates quickly and often includes plastics, cigarette butts, microplastics, packaging, and hazardous materials.

In California alone, more than 18,000 tons of litter are collected from highways each year. That’s the equivalent of over 3 million garbage bags—and much of it eventually washes into our rivers, lakes, and oceans.

This pollution harms wildlife, degrades soil and water quality, and creates fire hazards during hot, dry summers. Worse, microplastics and chemicals leach into ecosystems, entering the food chain and affecting both animal and human health.

Our cleanup efforts directly combat this cycle of pollution—and when you join us, you’re part of a growing movement of people who are stepping up to protect our shared environment.

What You Do Matters—Here’s How

At EcoServants, we believe that small acts, when multiplied by many, create monumental impact. Every bottle cap, every plastic bag, every rusted can you remove:

  • Prevents wildlife ingestion and entanglement
  • Reduces fire risks along dry roadsides
  • Keeps plastics and chemicals from entering local waterways
  • Inspires others to take responsibility for their communities
  • Provides valuable data for environmental research and education

Our volunteers have already removed over 82,000 pounds of litter and recycled more than 38,000 pounds of waste through cleanups just like this. Thanks to your continued support, we’re expanding our programs and developing tools like our Community Site Reports (CSR) Software to track and measure cleanup data globally.

🌟 What to Expect This Saturday

Volunteering is easy and rewarding! When you show up at 11614 Woodside Ave in Lakeside, you’ll be greeted by our friendly EcoServants team, provided with cleanup materials, and given a quick safety briefing. No experience is necessary—just bring:

  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Comfortable clothing
  • A reusable water bottle
  • A big heart and a helping spirit

You’ll work in teams to clean up litter along our assigned section of highway. We’ll track what’s collected and share the results with our larger community to keep the momentum going.

You’ll walk away knowing that you’ve helped create a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful California.

💚 Be the Reason Change Happens

California’s highways are shared by over 39 million people. Imagine if even a fraction took a few hours each month to clean up their surroundings—our landscapes would transform.

So join us this Saturday. Bring a friend. Bring your family. Be a part of something that truly matters.
